Joy, I really liked your topic of this post. I was really interesting in reading about it and thought it to be entertaining. This was something that I looked into for this blog and found a few documentaries on Netflix about it.

Your explanations about the psychological reasons of why people come to believe in this was the most interesting. When I was younger, I loved the concept of mermaids and always wanted to be one. I thought your blog post was very interesting and informative. I had no idea that the history of merfolk stemmed from aquatic ape theory. Although evidence is lacking, I think the existence of mermaids is a fun thing to imagine and even believe in.

I can see why people would believe in the aquatic ape theory. It is just like any other theory of evolution. Creatures adapt and change based on their needs. Because of this, I could see why others may believe that the existence of mermaids is possible, but there still is not enough real evidence to prove this to be true.

I absolutely love your second paragraph about the aquatic ape theory. Perhaps by only fishing for millions of years, they advanced some of the human traits that allow us to spend time in water, and evolved into a species capable of living in water. This is one of those super random factoids that these hardcore believers would totally throw at you as evidence.

I have no idea why but this theory is one of my favorite things I have read in these blog posts, thank you! I find this topic interesting. I wrote my second blog post on the conspiracy theories of the Denver airport. So, if the government actually found that there was creatures in danger in our oceans the drilling would have to stop because of the environmental.

And of course the government couldn't have that now could they? Those areas would be claimed as protected seas and our oil production would go down, causing the government to loose money. Guys, I'm 14 and even I can see what is right in front of me. Maybe its time to open your eyes. I'm not denying the existance of "aquatic humanoids" or what ever, but don't believe everything you read.

And personally, I don't care if they exist, or aliens. I can live a perfectly peacefull life with out the constant wonder and paranoia. Just useless stress. I visited the "claimed" website and I see no official releases about this subject, so I don't know where those people are getting their news from, I kinda wished they were real though haha. This is ludacris. Outrageous statements with no sources.

Do people actually use this website as a fact based source of information? Im pretty open to mermaids being real.

However, I seriously doubt this story is true. The Obama part really did it for me. I personally beleive in mermaids, but they are not fully in our physical plane, so thats why we dont see them so readily.. This is why we get called crack pots. Lies are no godd, and neither are such reports without sources, sorry. Find some evidence so that we DONT all look like crack pots, and others will open their minds to it instead of closing them down further!

Just back checked this, NOAA did not disclose any such thing and I do not know the benefit of keeping it a secret, especially because they cannot be on our intelligence level or their presence would be well known. There even in haiti were all the boats sink this info is old im surprise the u. Please atleast try to find some form of support instead of lying directly to the world… this is some serious bogocity.

Its funny how they all got straight hair though….. The more the truth that been trying to hide from us start to surface is the more they want to run away to mars I don't understand. That isnt what they really look like. Go look up Mermaides the Body Found. Get it together people. Go watch mermaid the body found on Discovery and u will c wat they really look like. Docufiction does not mean that the piece itself is fiction. It means that the documentary uses fictious characters to represent the events being described. Simply Googling it would have saved yourself the embarassment of joining the many other idiotic posters who speak with bravado but no knowlege.

Please do not insist upon knowing the truth without having ever removed your fat ass from that computer desk. I am a Marine Geologists employed with NOAA and can assure you the NOAA scientist in the documentary is a highly respected colleague in the field and would not trash his career and many years of dedication to science just for proverbial shits and giggles. What he is proclaiming is the most important scientific discovery in human history and should NOT be taken lightly.

Unfortunately the same evolutionary processes that may have made aquatic humanoids possible, is the same process which has caused an entire culture of land based humans to abandon the sciences for social media. Put simply, do not state what is or is not fact unless you yourself have access to the many thousands of artifacts, samples, and footage compiled by thousands of research scientists worldwide.

This is a legitimate find. Open your mind and ears, but do close your mouth. I agree,.. Watched it last night and was totally amazed! Are they real? I believe they are, but then, I believe in vampires too. Lots of literature on both existing. So, yes, I believe in both! Open your minds people …. I do agree that the government does often keep information from the public because they are not intelligent or open-minded enough to handle it. In order to survive that deep in the ocean there must be many physiological adaptations that allow you to survive the low amounts of oxygen, extremely dark environment, and high pressure.

You would also probably need more than 46 chromosomes. There may be mermaids, but they probably aren't as "human" as we would like. In re-in-actments, they use actors.. The pictures are from a tv show called H2O on a kids station! And you are an naive person to think it is real lol. A fake documentry. Are you kidding me? Thats a strong statement to have no further information or proof! And saying the spokeswoman of NOAA told them these things themselves? Is that a lawsuit ready for her to take? I think a spokeswoman would be easy to find, since that's their job to speak for and be the face of the administration. I mean let's all be honest, it's a nice thought to think that there is an intelligent human-like species underwater that we know nothing about. A feeling of connection and reason to feel less alone and distant from the rest of the animal kingdom.

Humans and mermaids could have had an understanding of each other in the long run, but now that the government took the mermaids captive that's probably a slim chance. We need to try to make peace with them not make them hate us and scare them off. Look it up on google. This article quotes the noaas attical claiming it confirms the existence of mermaids.

It in fact says the opposite. That page hasn't been updated since January ! Look on the bottom of the page under last revised. I believe that mermaids could be real from evidence off of the documentaries mermaids the body found and mermaids the new evidence some could not be fake expesially the ones deep in the waters.

So i assume i am the first to comment after the new program aired on animal planet.. It is absolutely amazing…the final video captures an intelligent aquadic creature that would give proof to the mermaid theory. It gives new questions and thought provoking answers…what is there story…what is this animals history…a clip shot from a robotic camera at the bottom of an oil derrik shows a fish being speared and then gone after an animal swims by.

So they are smart enough to use tools…and even smarter to stay away from humans. Either there are children commenting on this website about mermaids being real. And I doubt mermaids would be able to live that far down and come to the surface every once in a while.

As an individual with a degree in Biology. I believe combining the total evidence between this program and the previous program on Mermaids, the evidence is conclusive.

I'm a merman……I've been posing as a Navy Seal…. Actually I'm a scuba instructor. I've been diving for 45 years. I'm sure there are species we haven't seen but mermaids………? If you combine all the evidence from the last 2 programs on Mermaids, there is one conclusion that can be deduced.

This is a statement taken from the NOAA website. We have explored more of the moon than we have our own oceans. Scientist have just filmed in for the 1st time a great squid alive. Nothing is impossible people. Wow do they think we are dummies! Not this educated -prior military-freedom loving American!!

See, just look at all of the negative comments. A clear indication as to why the government or anyone barely came forth with this information and supporting evidence. Humans are exactly what they are known to be since slavery, evil. Why broadcast a mermaid knowing that idiots would just want to catch it to be experimental with it. I would like to know where the "mermaid" got the ring on her left hand!? Mermaids are not beautiful. They are ugly. They are made to live in water, not to be attractive. To all of you non-believers, there is proof they do exist. Now this website is stupid for putting up fake pictures of women in bikinis, this is not what the mermaids look like one bit. Mermaids, I have not done enough research to draw an informed conclusion, but I agree that our government knows much more about many things that they not only do not tell us but go to great lengths to obscure these facts. There is some crazy stuff at the bottom of the ocean, but it says at the end of the video that the only thing fact about the documentation was the navy sonar tests and the "bloop"or whatever.

Don't change all of your views after one video, do your research first. Most of the people in the documentation were actors anyway. Dan while I believe in the possibility of creatures along the lines of what is seen in the Animal Planet and Discovery shows, the shows themselves were simply a fictional imagining of what could be possible. The footage is nothing more than special effects. I truly do want to believe but nothing that has been shown is from common people.

It is only shown through this mockumentary. None of the footage making the rounds came out until after the Mermaids: The Body Found episode. That should tell you right there that this was all just for fun and nothing more. They even tell you during the show that it is purely fictional.

People should not be disappointed though. It is a call for us to observe our world more closely and have an open mind. There is no telling what we may discover in the future. Facts can be stranger than fiction. Not to mention everyone involved with the show has stated the show is not real.

You want people to believe what you say and "wake up", then give people reasons to be believers in the idea that mermaids exist. Post legit facts, not outlandish claims. Anything is possible but without significant evidence to support anything, I will continue to be on the fence and believe what I want to believe. All things are possible, but I believe that it is best to disbelieve; Surface bound members of the human kind are the most destructive parasitic creatures ever known.

We basically destroy everything available to us with very little concern of the future and our survival. Real or not forget about them-leave them alone-there could be real answers available here but we are not ready. Governments are not the Gods of anyone; to capture, torture, harass or corrupt is not a source of reliable knowledge and is just morally wrong at the very basic level.

So no matter what I believe, if asked. I will tell you that it is just a myth because I just want mankind to leave them alone.

I honestly believe in mermaids! Especially the last video they showed omg! Mermaids do not look like those fake mermaids pictures on this website! In fact they do not have hair! They have bigger eyes than us and they speak like dolphins! Now that it proves they are real, people should not be cruel anymore I mean, thats the reason why they stayed hidden, because people used to haunt them. The Mermaid show was so obviously faked it is unreal. They all need to find real actors …lol The video footage is just as fake. People are so easily fooled. Behind every myth is some level of truth…think about it! The "documentary" was really quite fascinating. I am not sure if they were trying to pass it off as facts or not but to me it was fairly easy to feel that it was just entertainment. People are going to believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts. I enjoyed the show and my imagination wandered and calculated the vastness of all that there is and the possibility that we are not alone.

The mermaid pictures above remind me of reincarnation, nobody was ever just a grasshopper in a past life just kings and queens. It was fun and the models above are just that models a little to thin for my taste but I guess that is the American ideal, but that is a whole other story.

I believe in them now, yes the show is fake but they have some real facts on it. The mermaids are real there is alot of proof around the world for many many many years.

Even before there was communication with other countries. So think again and do ur research before really deciding if they r real or not. You hear something times it might be BS, but if you hear something 1 million times something in what theyre saying must be true, and there have been documentation on this new species since , not including the messages left by civilizations before ours, just asking for an open mind if this is a new species the last thing we should do is ruin it like the US always seems to do.

It is a movie, not real. Wow people! If you believe theories scientists debate over, there is no factual evidence we came from primate. While it is a fact we came from water. While some went on land? We are finding new species and old ancient species thought to be extinct. Question is: Are we going to give equal scientific time and finances to all the unexplored which is now at our fingertips?

But for mermaids, aliens or anything supernatural we ask for evidence in order to believe. I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but that entire show you think is real is a documented fake.

Even the maker of the show admits its fictional. The New York Times did an article about this show, and the maker of the program talks about how he created fake scientists who present what looks like a documentary showing facts, but is actually Charlie Foley having fun and showing what could be.

What he hopes might be. It is all a product of his imagination. He never intended for anyone to take it seriously as factual evidence. All you have to do is google mermaids and The New York Times article tells it all. The National Ocean Service website also says there has never been any evidence found for mermaids.

In the end, the Animal Planet's program was just a fictional movie meant to entertain the masses. And that's all. If you want to go on believing in mermaids, that's your right. But just no there is not one shred of evidence for it. I think it's sad that the show was presented in the way it was in order to fool people.

But I think it's even sadder that so many didn't question it. Even I knew the whole thing sounded strange and implausible, and I watched much of the program. But this article really tipped me off. Obama has met the mermaids? Even I'm not that gullible! My take from it was it was more of an environmentalist protest to sonar testing than mermaid.

I suppose they got the attention they sought after though so success? Well if it's in the New York Times then that's it!! End of search. They are the bastion of truth don't ya know! Any intelligent person if they take a few minutes to look into this can tell it's a hoax. Unless you are not really looking in the truth. The NOAA has been found in past to falsify records and not report truth!

And how can u say no one was questioning it…ummm hello have u seen all the posts around the net??? The people who believe in this documentary after it has been revealed that the program was just a fictional program are a testament to our failing educational system. I never knew so many people were dumber than dirt in our country.

Very sad. The Animation part was Fictional Not the Scientific evidence. It says "fictional based on true evidence"… Did you watch the whole thing and the interviews…or just going by a surface glance? Im interested in the new show aired march not the fictional documentary..

But mermaids the new evidence wich as far as i can tell from many hours looking at crap may have some real basis.. Sorry are you from past? We're humans, and as humans, we are the most shameful wild and cruel species out there. If one does get captured, everyone would have an uproar and try to experiment on them and we'll drive them into extinction. I mean, we've driven out others towards extinction, so why is it impossible for them?

My Father in law told me apprx 40 years ago he was swimming in Jamaica. He's a indian Jamaican that he saw a Mermaid in the ocean and she was Brushing her hair with a Gold brush. I don't think we are the only beings on this planet. I'm not saying they're real, because honestly that show I just watched last night about the mermaid's body, it looked fake, the video the kids took looked fake just like the tank scene looked fake.

But, just think about it, it could happen. There's new species of fish discovered every day. All those fish that weren't discovered until after they washed ashore after hurricane Katrina, even the giant squid was a myth and legend not long ago, but was depicted in old legends and cave drawings, and has been proved to be real.

Why can't mermaids be the same way? It's impossible for me to think that we, as humans, are the only cultered and sophisticated beings on the planet. If you think about it, if we really are the only cultered beings, then that makes us all alone with just animals.
