Maybe some are aware of these angelic meetings. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And we can be confident that He still works in the same powerful ways, for He never changes. Here are five reasons why God sent angels in the Bible, what their stories teach us, and why we may experience an interaction with angel today. Many people believe that angels are very real, even today. There are many examples in the Bible of when God sends an angel to give a specific message to an individual or group.
Sometimes it was a word of encouragement or to offer hope for what was still to come. Here are some examples from Scripture where God sent angels with messages:.
In Genesis 18 , God sent three of these messengers to Abraham and Sarah to tell them that even in her old age, she would soon bear a son. Within just a year, those words had come true. God sent the angel, Gabriel, to Mary in Luke 1 to tell her that she would give birth to the very Son of God. Gabriel also came to Zechariah to tell him the news that Elizabeth would bear a son. In Matthew 28 , an angel appeared at the tomb of Christ to announce that Jesus was risen. As believers, we never need to be afraid of angels.
Though this may be our normal response if we ever encountered one, the Bible reminds us over and over that we do not need to fear them Luke Many times throughout history, and still today, God sends angels to protect, guard, and fight for us. We do not have authority over angels, and the Bible never tells us to give them instruction or to command them. They also have not experienced the redeeming and saving power of Jesus Christ. However, salvation and the reach of God are so very evidenced in heaven, the angels rejoice, exclaim, and praise His wondrous power and provision.
The second purpose of angels is to deliver a message from God. We cannot effectively pray to angels to deliver our petitions to God as some religions may claim. In Genesis 18 , we read about Abraham and his visit from three men.
Angels can indeed have the appearance of earthly men. Abraham treated the visitors with generous hospitality as though they were men, but one was actually Jesus.
In the verses quoted above from Psalms , we are assured that God concerns himself with His faithful believers. Verse 11 specifically tells us He gives His angels charge over us to keep us on the correct path. The protection of the believer is deemed personal. Additionally, in verse 11, God promises his guard in all our ways.
This assurance is not just for the good times, the bad times, or the difficult decisions. Even Satan recognized the presence and power of angels within the life of Jesus. Notice that Jesus did not request the angels to intervene but did not negate the truth of the power and presence of angels either.
The sheer numbers of holy angels disposed to fight for us is uncountable Daniel , Hebrews So be cautious in how you treat others, particularly strangers, or anyone you might have never met before, or someone you may encounter during your day.
The Bible says that many have already had contact with angels, either knowing it or not Hebrews Perhaps not everyday in the sense of seeing them, but most of us have surely heard of others who have experienced encounters that could only be explained by divine intervention or angels. We should take comfort in the fact that they are there for us…. Revelation talks about angels of particular churches.
Do these angels fight Satan and his demons, like an angel had to fight for three weeks to finally get a message through to Daniel Daniel ? In fact, it sometimes takes more than one angel, like the help needed from one of the most powerful angels…Michael, the Archangel.
As a general rule, Christians ought to treat even strangers with love and compassion, especially since angels are enormously powerful Rev and are, like God, no respecter of persons. The point is that we should naturally want to treat others better than our self. Yes my friends, there are angels all around us…each of us having at least one angel [there may be even more] assigned by God for a specific purpose.
That of our protection. And I thank God for that. To protect those whom even the angels know, are of His very own flock. You may never see one, nor may ever encounter one, but apparently everyone has their own angel.
For adults, these angels may be assigned to those individual Christians and not all people in general. The main thing is that I hope all been saved and accepted Christ and been baptized, since He could return at any time Revelation , 1 Corinthians , Luke , Luke The angels are said to rejoice at the saving of even one person. And why not!? Abandon your self-effort and realize you nor I can be saved by our own works or efforts Acts And it is certain the angels rejoiced because of your salvation.
I wish I could just hear them. Now you can join a Bible-believing church, or call NeedHim for follow up questions about salvation that is only available through Jesus Christ Acts Previous Post Lunchtime Links: July 9, My name is Jack Wellman. Excellent article, Jack, and a message that we need to remember. Thank you for that. A friend of mine was traveling through New Mexico during a snow storm and ended in the steep median with no hope of getting the car out. Her husband a non-believer was in front of her and continued down the road.
