I did research on a simple tablet can bring to use at work during breaks that lacked camera or mic and made no sound per company requirement and in my initial search was excited to see the paperwhite seemed to be compatible with some simple games like mahjong or solitare and made a whole wishlist of em. Now imagine my frustration when I finally purchased it with that notion of having a few games along with the books being a deciding factors only to discover that I couldnt get the apps since I had the current model which is now incompatible.
Seems like a big step back to me to remove that option. Now gotta return it and hunt down an older used model in good condition that is still compatible. Thankfully seems the dimensions didnt change so can use the case I bought with any paperwhite models.
The active content are great vocabulary builders and fun to use. Why would they bother their developers when they are making millions and get away with disappointing the users.
I shall be returning it for refund on Monday. I want to use one gadget outdoors when I feel like it. If Amazon decide to withdraw the facility, they should market the new model under a different name then everyone knows what they are buying. Why not enable the content? We absolutely miss active content on our Kindle. We were frankly stunned to discover it was not available on our new Paperwhite and will likely return it.
I recently purchased a new kindle paperwhite so that I could give my teenager my old one. Often I am too tired to read but I could play every word for awhile and I would get sleepy again. I wish I had been made aware of this change when I purchased my device. My wife bought me a kindle, thinking that we could play our favorite word game together on it… ooops, not any more.
Yes — I used to play SudokuWorks on my 5th gen Paperwhite that was stolen recently between books and loved having that ability. Absolutely am so bummed by not having active content! My old Paperwhite no longer works. Come on Amazon. Make this happen.
I wish they would have kept the functionality. I had a Kindle in that let me download on 3G, browse the web in a rudimentary sort of way, and play some basic word games. Sure, it was primarily for reading, but the other functions were a nice change of pace, and on such a nice, low-strain screen and long battery life.
Sometimes older Kindles turn up for cheap at Woot , but they sellout quickly. Not impressed, and really miss a few minutes of word games every day. Just bought the newest kindle 10th generation and HATE not having the active content games available!!! I play Every Word before bed as a relaxing way to segue into sleep and on trips.
Very annoyed. Traded my old kindle in so stuck unless I can find one that will play games. Anne, I bought a Fire a few years ago and was not able to get EveryWord on that either. I am able to get Solitaire and Blackjack, but prefer word games.
I just received my new Paperwhite 10th generation and am soooooo disappointed that my EveryWord and EveryWord Crossings games are not supported. I am now debating sending it back. My 5th generation is still working. Amazon support service did not help.
Believe it or not, I am writing this comment on my Kindle Touch! I have several games and apps. Sadly, my USB port is messed up and will likely cease to function soon. Does anyone know if that works or if you can back them up somehow? Testing with Kindle Touch!
This is NOT a joke. BTW, I have several games and apps. My first kindle was stolen. Unfortunately, it does not work anymore on my present Kindle Reader. Has anyone found equivalent replacements for the games, perhaps on android?
You have your little pet pronounced "poo" and you have to feed him, bathe him and generally keep him happy. Pou is in his infancy when you first begin playing the game and it's up to you to bring him up right. He will have favorite foods and likewise things he really just doesn't like. You advance in the game by performing tasks and collecting coins, which you can also buy with cold, hard cash. The coins are used to buy food, toys, clothes and health potions for your Pou. This also has additional solo games, like a Simon Says knockoff, and tic tac toe that you can play with your friends who also have Pou.
Each game you play earns you extra coins but, if your Pou is tired or hungry, you will not be able to play. Beware: If your Pou is hungry or otherwise needs attention and you have push notifications enabled, Pou will make flatulent noises to get your attention. This can be kind of hard to explain when you're in the company of real people as opposed to the pixel people!
Word searches rock, especially when they're FREE! Most of us really enjoy a nice, relaxing word search. This game is easy - just tap the first letter of the word and drag the line to the end. I've downloaded several different word searches for the Kindle Fire, and I like this one the best.
Some of the others have annoyingly colored graphics - WordSearch Unlimited is a plain chalkboard and the "found" words are highlighted in white which makes them very easy to see. Another bonus for this game is that there's a leader board and you can challenge yourself to beat your best times. This gets right hard after a while, I'm trying to beat my longest personal best of 58 seconds! This one is ad supported, as you can see in the screenshot, so make sure your wireless is off if you have limited internet allowances.
This version gives you a choice of word lists and also allows you to choose between three different difficulty settings. Fluik Entertainment Inc. In this free Kindle Fire game, we get to fling ice cubes at the plumber's, well, butt crack. You get to choose between a male and female plumber and four different backgrounds.
There are also four different ways to play, Zen, Arcade, Time Attack and Sharpshooter - each one offers either time limits or special shooting abilities.
It may sound easy, but getting the ice cube in the plumber's crack is kind of difficult - especially when they wiggle! You get bonuses for difficult shots as well as multiple successful shots in a row. This one is a fun way to pass the time, but isn't something I can play for long periods of time.
It is, however, one of the funniest games I've ever played. Though Plumber Crack is free, you can buy "Crack Bucks" to get extra stuff in the game. This is a pretty involved game where your choices affect the outcome.
Everybody harbors secret fantasies about being famous, and games like Stardom: Hollywood give us a taste of what it's really like to start from the bottom and work your way up. This starts you on your journey to fame and fortune because, after all, you have to pay that rent! You get sent on missions and virtually everything comes with a choice.
Do you want to get an agent? Maybe you'd like to try out for a clothes detergent commercial? Go for it! Every choice you make will have consequences, and sometimes the game will prod you in the right direction. As with a lot of free games, you have limited energy which does increase as you level up and limits the amount of things you can do in one turn.
For example, working might take all of your energy leaving you to wait for it to refill before you can do anything else. This is one of those games that sells "dollars" which enable you to do things, like refilling your energy, for cash. I haven't played this game for very long but it is interesting and even funny, so I'm going to stick with it. Hello Kitty fans rejoice, there are free games available for your Kindle Fire!
I think all of these games started way back with Diner Dash. This time, Sanrio has gotten their piece of the action with Hello Kitty Cafe. This is pretty much your standard diner game, with cute Hello Kitty pink graphics. It is challenging, you start out doing everything slowly when you need to do it quickly and eventually earn enough points to become faster and buy cooler stuff.
The only drawback I really see in this game is that, in order to play the cooler characters, like Badtz-Maru or Hello Kitty, you have to buy hearts to purchase them. This game, though simple, takes practice - you will need to use both hands, unless you have really long fingers. The setup is simple. You've got a barn and a bunch of cows. You have to herd the little guys into the barn while managing to not let any aliens get in, or they will steal your cows.
And we all know what happens when aliens get a hold of cows! Even at the lowest levels, this game is a little challenging and some folks think it gets boring quickly, but I'm having a blast with it. This free Kindle Game does have the option to buy "Milk Bucks" to get extra stuff, but it's really unnecessary for normal game play.
Fun stuff, and we all got a little hillbilly bone down deep inside! It is virtually impossible to get an in-game screenshot of "Fruit Ninja"! Screenshot by Georgie Lowey. Fruit Ninja , from Halfbrick Studios, is a very popular game where the player slashes through fruit to advance levels.
The motions are fluid and, as you progress, the levels become more difficult. Just make sure that you don't slice up the bombs or your game is over! I think that Fruit Ninja is different from most of the other games of its type in that is is visually stunning.
Halfbrick spared no expense on these graphics, even for the free version. Objectives Students will learn about changes that occurred in the New World and Old World as a result of early exploration. Older students only. Besides strange people and animals, they were exposed to many foods that were unknown in the Old World. In this lesson, you might post an outline map of the continents on a bulletin board. On the bulletin board, draw an arrow from the New World the Americas to the Old World Europe, Asia, Africa and post around it drawings or images from magazines or clip art of products discovered in the New World and taken back to the Old World.
You might draw a second arrow on the board -- from the Old World to the New World -- and post appropriate drawings or images around it. Adapt the Lesson for Younger Students Younger students will not have the ability to research foods that originated in the New and Old World. You might adapt the lesson by sharing some of the food items in the Food Lists section below.
Have students collect or draw pictures of those items for the bulletin board display. Students might find many of those and add them to the bulletin board display. Notice that some items appear on both lists -- beans, for example. There are many varieties of beans, some with New World origins and others with their origins in the Old World. In our research, we found sources that indicate onions originated in the New and sources that indicate onions originated in the Old World.
Students might create a special question mark symbol to post next to any item for which contradictory sources can be found Note: The Food Timeline is a resource that documents many Old World products. This resource sets up a number of contradictions. For example: Many sources note that tomatoes originated in the New World; The Food Timeline indicates that tomatoes were introduced to the New World in The Food Timeline indicates that strawberries and raspberries were available in the 1st century in Europe; other sources identify them as New World commodities.
Foods That Originated in the Old World: apples, bananas, beans some varieties , beets, broccoli, carrots, cattle beef , cauliflower, celery, cheese, cherries, chickens, chickpeas, cinnamon, coffee, cows, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, ginger, grapes, honey honey bees , lemons, lettuce, limes, mangos, oats, okra, olives, onions, oranges, pasta, peaches, pears, peas, pigs, radishes, rice, sheep, spinach, tea, watermelon, wheat, yams.
